Rules for Virtual Competitions

  1. Placement of Camera: needs to be as indicated on the pattern chart. No editing, or adding music allowed. Your video needs to contain sound and be in the “raw” format. The horse and human need to stay visible for the entire pattern. Ideally someone can film your pattern to ensure you fit within the video frame at all times. If you don’t have someone to film, consider getting a Pivo which is an easy to use device you put on a tripod, and put your phone on so that it tracks you and can rotate to follow you. You can get one from we recommend getting the “silver” because it is faster and is about $120. It works indoors and is simple to set up. If filming with a phone, please film the video in horizontal view, NOT vertical (so the video is wide not narrow).
  2. You can compete in the same level with different horses, or different levels with different horses. You can only compete in one level with the same horse.
  3. You will not be penalized for someone calling out the pattern to you.
  4. Videos that have been edited will not be scored.
  5. Horse abuse including excessive whipping, spurring, or yanking will be eliminated.
  6. Attire: Dress neat, tidy, clean and with appropriate footwear. Helmets should be worn if riding, mandatory if 18 or under. Western or English dress and tack is acceptable. You do not need “show” attire. It is recommended to dress professionally looking with a collared long sleeved shirt.
  7. Tack: English or Western tack is acceptable. Any tack that is comfortable for your horse and appropriately fitted (and safe) is acceptable. Recommended to be neat and tidy. Leg wraps are acceptable.
