The Institute of the Heart Math conducted an interesting study. The study was on the two-way healing of the heart between horse and human and electromagnetic fields research. The study compared the human electromagnetic field, which is more significant than our brain’s electromagnetic field and can project up to 3 feet. On the other hand, a horse’s electromagnetic field is five times more prominent, allowing us and the horses to feel each other from a distance.

The research described the horse’s heart pattern, which is called a coherent heart rate pattern. And this pattern is associated with feelings of joy, happiness and low stress. Because horses have this type of heart rhythm when we’re close to them, they can start to help us feel calmer, more relaxed, and joyful within that electromagnetic field.

The study of the coherent heart pattern or HRV can determine the well-being and consistency of emotional stress and your state of calmness and positive emotion. Studying the coherent heart rate pattern can also tell you how well you’re going to adapt to stressful situations or if you’re going to be able to recover quickly. This is why when you are around horses, and you often start to get a sense of well-being and a sense of peace.

The research is starting to show that people can have a lot of different benefits when interacting with horses. They’re looking at things ranging from lowering blood pressure and lowering heart rate to having higher beta-endorphins, which are your pain suppressors. Those neurotransmitters that act as pain suppressors also decreased stress levels and decreased feelings of anger and hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working, and things like greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience, and self-efficacy.

When around horses, I feel in the now and tend to let go of life’s stress, and I focus on being present with my horses. Physical activity, in general, is also good for your mind, muscles, and your body. It helps your body focus on the movement and get out of negative loops and worrying.

It would make sense the electromagnetic field could be a scientific explanation for why horses will also feed off the energy of the human. This is why it’s so important to be in control of our own emotions. And if we are nervous or upset and hitting that “red zone” (referring to the Harmony Energy Scales), we take some time to help ourselves get back to a calm alert state or “green zone” (on The Harmony Energy Scale).

This is all part of managing our emotions and having emotional control. It makes you wonder when horses become more nervous or spooky around particular people. Is it something to do with our heart rhythm that they’re picking up on?

Many people use horses for therapy like Equine Assisted Learning. They use horses as a therapy to help people overcome different psychological traumas. They can also use horses to help groups and individuals with problem-solving skills and other learning disabilities. If you have a story that you would like to share, I would love to hear that in the comments. If you’re following us on Facebook, drop a comment on the podcast posts. It’s great to hear everybody’s stories and hear how horses positively impact our community. As always enjoy the journey.
